Youth on Unity
Baha'i Standards of conduct

"Let them call to mind, fearlessly and determinedly, the example and conduct of Abdu'l-Baha' while in their midst."
-Shogi Effendi: Advent of Divine Justice, p. 34

It is the policy of the Youth on Unity Workshop that alcohol, drugs, simulated drugs and other controlled substances are prohibited on any youth activity. Youth found in possession of or under the influence of the above items will be referred to the Youth on Unity Committee and sponsoring Spiritual Assembly for action. You will be subject to suspension from future Y.O.U. activities.

"He feels that the youth, in particular, must constantly and determinedly strive to exemplify a Baha'i life. In the world around us we see moral decay, promiscuity, indecency, vulgarity, bad manners- the young people must be the opposite of these things, and, by their chastity, their uprightness, their consideration and good manners, attract others, old and young, to the Faith. The world is tired of words; it wants example, and it is up to the Baha'i youth to furnish it."
-Shogi Effendi: Excellence in All things, p. 383

"Shogi Effendi stated that one of the requirements for a "chaste and holy life" is "total abstinence....from opium, and from similar habit forming drugs: Heroin, hashish and other derivatives of cannabis such as marijuana, as well as hallucinogenic agents such as LSD, peyote and similar substances, are regarded as falling under this prohibition.
-Kita'b-i-Aqdas, Note 170

Smoking cigarettes, though not encouraged, will be allowed if you are of legal age and if the host family/ community deems it to be alright.

Youth will not leave the group without knowledge and consent of the Committee and/or designated chaperones.

You are responsible for your behavior, and your behavior is a reflection of the entire Youth on Unity Workshop as well as the Baha'i Faith.

"Let deeds, not words be your adorning."
-Baha'-u-llah, Persian Hidden Words # 5

Baha'i Dress Code

"Dress which conforms to Baha'i standards is at all times, far removed from the styles curently popular. Reststing pressure to deviate from Baha'i standards is often difficult, but one can gain the strenth and courage to be different from others by internalizing the principals of the Faith, identifying with Abdu'l-Baha', and striving to base his actions on Bala'i values. The challenge to distinguish ones self by dress and deportment, when met with confidence and enthusiasm, is yet another opportunity to become a dynamic example."
-The Dynamic Force of Example, p. 144

As representatives of the Baha'i Faith, you will want to set a noted and praiseworthy example for other youth. While attending a Y.O.U. retreat, the following should be adhered to:
- Apparel should be moderate in taste and appropriate for a Spiritual Gathering. Clothes should be neat and clean.

These standards of behaviour will be updated as needed. You will not be automatically emailed when changes are made. Check back for updates.
