There have been Bahá'ís in the UK for a century
and in the Mole Valley for the past 30 years, with the first local
Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of the Mole Valley being established
in 1974.
Main towns in the Mole Valley are Dorking, Leatherhead, Ashtead
and Bookham with lots of smaller towns and villages. Bahá'ís live
in several of these areas. From time to time press releases about
the Bahá'í Faith appear in the local newspapers, the Leatherhead
and Dorking "Advertisers".
Local Activities
| "Children are the most precious treasure a community
can possess, for in them are the promise and guarantee of the
future." |
The spiritual and moral education of children is seen by Bahá'ís
as one of the most important of services, since children represent
the future of the community. Children's classes (aged from 3 - 9 from
all faiths or none) are held every alternate Sunday morning in Leatherhead.
There is no charge. Class teachers have gone through the legally required
obligatory screening procedure. The aim is to help children acquire
moral and spiritual values and develop an upright character - showing
concern for other people and for the world around them.
So that they can understand the source of these ethical teachings,
classes include lessons on the major world religions - acknowledging
their essential truth and common divine origin while avoiding doctrinal
and sectarian attitudes. The classes place emphasis on character development,
but naturally also include the history, the principles and general
spiritual teachings of the Bahá'í Faith. Please email Bahá'ís of the Mole Valley
and we will be happy to provide more information.
Devotional meetings are held in the homes of local Bahá'ís in the area. These programmes generally have a theme, are open to all, are free from ritual and quite simple. Gentle music may be used to help create a meditative or reflective state.
Study circles on the Bahá'í Faith are held around Surrey. The Study
Circle is a proven participative method of learning, guided by the
principles and teachings of the Bahá'í Faith. They unleash the capacity
of the individual to realise his or her latent potential. Participants
take part at their own pace in an atmosphere of love, friendship and
understanding in groups of five to ten with a tutor.
We would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to find
out more about the Bahá'í Faith in the Mole Valley. As you will see,
there is a lot of information already provided on this web site about
the Bahá'í Faith in general - please contact Bahá'ís of the Mole Valley
as informal discussions (firesides) are held locally and there
is a lending library of books about the Bahá'í Faith and related subjects.
