Services offered by BCI
Web Server Space
BCI will host the HTML and graphics files which
make up your website (up to 20 megabytes) on our web server. If
you use BCI's domain name, your web address will look like
www.bci.org/yourname
BCI can also host your site if you register
your own domain name. We
provide the required DNS servers and we can help you through the
registration
process. If you obtain your own domain name, your web address
will look
like:
www.yourname.org
While our server uses the Linux
operating system, you can
create your website off-line using your own Windows or Mac
computer. A wide variety of web development tools
are available for each platform, but some developers prefer to simply
use a a text editor
(to do this, you must know HTML).
You can upload new or revised
files to your account
whenever you wish to keep your website current. To do this, you
use an FTP
client program.
Email
Each member is provided with a true POP3 electronic mailbox ("yourname@bci.org")
which can set up
in a variety of ways. You can set up your existing email software to
retrieve
messages from the BCI server (in addition to your other mail accounts),
or you
can have all mail coming to your BCI mailbox automatically forwarded
elsewhere.
BCI can also set up email aliases of the form "yourname@bci.org".
Any mail sent by others to this address is automatically forwarded to
you at either your BCI or personal address.
Additional mailboxes and aliases can be set up
as necessary.
