Advertising your website
When your website is complete, be sure to let others know
how to find it. We will include a link in Websites hosted
at BCI.
Search Engines
Search engines allow people to search for interesting sites
based on user-supplied
keywords of interest. You will want to make sure that your website has
several
appropriate keywords, such as the name of your city, the word "Bahai",
etc.
You can add "Meta tags" to increase the likelihood that your
website will show up in a search. See the documentation at the
search
sites.
Be aware that if your site has several pages, the "robots"
which explore the
Internet will find all of them. Therefore, some readers may jump
straight to a lower-tier
page, bypassing your home page. You will want to make it easy for
people to find your home
page from any of your other pages.
Directories
Directories (such as Yahoo!)
allow users
to browse through areas of topical interest, such as "religions" or
"churches". You can request links directly from these sites in
appropriate categories.
Local Resources
You may want to search the Internet for local sites in your
area which are of interest
to the general public, such as the city or Chamber of Commerce. The
sponsors may be
interested in providing a link to your site. Contact the local
webmaster to request
a link.
Bahá'í Resource Lists
These are lists covering Bahá'í-related
information on the Internet. They include A Bahá'í Faith
Page maintained by Glen Little and Bahá'í
Resources on the Internet
maintained by Gordon Lane.
Other Ideas
You may want to include your home page address in your
proclamation efforts. You can
include it in your newspaper advertisement, your flyer, or brochure.
