The essential purpose of the religion of God is to establish unity among mankind. The divine Manifestations were Founders of the means of fellowship and love. They did not come to create discord, strife, and hatred in the world. The religion of God is the cause of love, but if it is made to be the source of enmity and bloodshed, surely its absence is preferable to its existence; for then it becomes satanic, detrimental, and an obstacle to the human world.
`Abdu'l-Bahá, Promulgation of Universal Peace, p 202
The Bahá’í Faith is a world religion whose purpose is to unite all the races and peoples in one universal Cause and one common Faith. Bahá'ís are the followers of Bahá’u’lláh, which means GLORY OF GOD, Who they believe is the Promised One of all Ages. As we know, the traditions of most religions include the promise of a future when peace and harmony will be established on earth and humankind will live in prosperity. We believe that the promised hour has come and that Bahá’u’lláh is the great Personage Whose Teachings will enable humanity to build a new world. In one of His Writings, Bahá’u’lláh says:
“That which the Lord hath ordained as the sovereign remedy and mightiest instrument for the healing of all the world is the union of all its peoples in one universal Cause, one common Faith.”
One of Bahá’u’lláh’s Teachings is about God and our relationship with Him. Bahá’u’lláh teaches us that God is unknowable in His Essence. This means that we should not make images of God in our mind, thinking of Him, for example, as a man. In general, that which has been created cannot understand its creator. For instance, a table cannot understand the nature of the carpenter who made it. The carpenter’s existence is totally incomprehensible to the objects he makes. God is the Creator of all things. The reason behind our creation, we are told by Bahá’u’lláh, is LOVE and UNITY. He says:
“O Son of Man! I loved thy creation, hence I created thee. Wherefore, do thou love Me, that I may name thy name and fill thy soul with the spirit of life.”
So although God’s existence is far beyond our understanding, His love touches our lives and our beings ceaselessly. The way this love flows to us is through His Eternal Covenant. According to this Eternal Covenant, God never leaves us alone and without guidance. Whenever humanity moves away from Him and forgets His Teachings, a Manifestation of God appears and makes His Will and Purpose known to us.
O’n sgyrsiau blaenorol, fe wyddost fod y Ffydd Bahá’í yn grefydd fyd-eang sydd â’r diben o uno pob hil a chenedl mewn un Achos cyffredinol ac un Ffydd gyffredin. Bahá’ís yw dilynwyr Bahá’u’lláh, a chredant mai Ef yw’r Un a Addawyd trwy’r Oesoedd. Fel y gwyddost, mae traddodiadau pob cenedl, bron, yn cynnwys addewid am ddyfodol pan sefydlir heddwch ac undod ar y ddaear ac y bydd dynoliaeth yn byw mewn hawddfyd. Credwn fod yr awr a addawyd wedi dod, ac mai Bahá'u’lláh yw’r Person mawr y bydd Ei Ddysgeidiaeth yn galluogi’r ddynoliaeth i lunio byd newydd. Yn un o’i Ysgrythurau, dywed Bahá'u’lláh:
"Yr hyn a ordeiniodd yr Arglwydd fel y feddyginiaeth bennaf a’r offeryn cryfaf i wella’r holl fyd yw undod ei holl bobloedd mewn un Achos cyffredinol, un Ffydd gyffredin."
Os yw’n iawn gyda thi, y cyntaf o Athrawiaethau Bahá’u’lláh y byddaf yn ei ddisgrifio i ti yw’r un am Dduw a’n perthynas ag Ef. Mae Bahá'u’lláh yn ein dysgu nad oes modd adnabod Duw yn Ei Hanfod. Golyga hyn na ddylem wneud delweddau o Dduw yn ein meddyliau, gan feddwl amdano Ef, er enghraifft, fel dyn. Yn gyffredinol, ni all yr hyn a grëwyd ddeall ei greawdwr. Er enghraifft, ni all bwrdd ddeall natur y saer a’i gwnaeth. Ni all y pethau mae’r saer yn eu gwneud amgyffred bodolaeth y saer o gwbl.
Duw yw Creawdwr pob dim. Ef wnaeth y nefoedd a’r ddaear, gyda’i fynyddoedd a’i ddyffrynnoedd, ei ddiffeithwch a’i foroedd, afonydd, ei gaeau a’i goed. Mae Duw wedi creu’r anifeiliaid ac y mae Duw wedi creu’r bod dynol. Y rheswm y tu ôl i’n creu, medd Bahá'u’lláh wrthym, yw CARIAD ag UNDOD. Meddai:
O Fab Dyn! Cerais y Greadigaeth, felly fe’th greaist di. Felly, cara di Fi, fel y’th enwaf di a llenwi dy enaid ag ysbryd y bywyd."
Felly er bod bodolaeth Duw ymhell y tu hwnt i’n dealltwriaeth. Mae Ei gariad yn cyffwrdd ein bywydau a’n bod yn ddi-baid. Y ffordd y mae’r cariad hwn yn llifo yw trwy Ei Gyfamod Tragwyddol. Yn ôl y Cyfamod Tragwyddol hwn, nid yw Duw byth yn ein gadael yn unig a heb gyfarwyddyd. Pryd bynnag y mae dynoliaeth yn symud ymaith oddi wrtho Ef ac yn anghofio Ei Ddysgeidiaeth, mae Amlygiad Duw yn ymddangos ac yn datgelu Ei Ewyllys a’i Bwrpas i ni.
